When addressing people, you should follow the hierarchy – i.e. team leaders, managers, managing directors, etc. first, followed by assistants, team members, etc. Where people are of equal rank, it is up to you in which order you mention them. You can either address the women first or list the people alphabetically.

Whether you place the photo on the left, right or centre of the page is a matter of layout. However, you should always look ‘into’ the page, never out of it! So if you’re looking slightly to the right in the photo, it belongs on the left-hand side. And vice versa. Ideally, the photo should also match the colour scheme of the cover page and, by extension, your documents.

Professional networking sites such as Xing or LinkedIn are a good place to start, provided your profiles are well-maintained and up to date. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. are worth using if they are used for professional purposes or if knowledge of them is required.

You should definitely state your preferred working hours so that the employer understands exactly what you mean. This doesn’t necessarily have to be in the subject line, unless there are several similar vacancies that differ only in terms of the number of hours.
