Unternehmensinformation

Doxycycline hyclate is a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat many bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, skin infections, acne, certain sexually transmitted infections, eye infections, and tick-borne illnesses. It may also be used for malaria prevention in some situations. It does not work for viral illnesses such as colds or flu.

It is usually taken once or twice daily depending on the condition. It should be swallowed with a full glass of water and not taken right before lying down, because it can irritate the esophagus. It may be taken with food if stomach upset occurs, but dairy, antacids, iron, magnesium, zinc, and calcium supplements can reduce absorption if taken too close together.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, and mild rash. One of the most important warnings is photosensitivity, meaning skin may burn more easily in sunlight. Sun protection is important during treatment.

Serious warnings include severe allergic reactions, trouble swallowing, chest pain from esophageal irritation, severe headache or vision changes, persistent diarrhea, liver problems, and severe skin reactions. It should be used carefully in people with liver disease.

Doxycycline hyclate should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless clearly needed, and it is usually not preferred in young children because tetracyclines can affect teeth and bone development.

Drug interactions matter. Retinoids such as isotretinoin may increase the risk of intracranial pressure problems. Blood thinners may need closer monitoring. Penicillin antibiotics may not combine well in some situations.

A full course should be completed exactly as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early.
