The University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position in the Control of Networked Systems Group at the Department of Smart Systems Technologies at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, starting date as soon as possible: 

Senior Scientist (all genders welcome)

Level of employment: 100 % (40 hours/week)

Minimum salary: € 66,532.20 per annum (gross); classification according to collective agreement: B1 lit. b

In the Control of Networked Systems group at the Department of Smart Systems Technologies, we seek to push the current limits in AI supported state estimation, control, cooperative visual perception, and multi-modal sensor fusion for autonomous and mobile networked systems. The group publishes regularly in international top journals and conference proceedings. Successful applicants will be encouraged and supported to publish their work in such journals and proceedings and will have the opportunity to cooperate with our world-renowned international partners from science and industry. We specifically encourage and support close and open collaboration with our peers both internationally and at the university. Our teaching areas encompass Control, Systems Theory, Control of Autonomous Systems and Vision-Based State Estimation.

Our research group provides a highly dynamic, familiar, and friendly setting and thus a collaborative and inspiring work environment with highly modern infrastructure, which is continuously updated and upgraded. The group currently operates one of the largest drone halls in Europe (https://forschungsinfrastruktur.bmbwf.gv.at/en/fi/drohnenhub-klagenfurt_4492) and is in the process of establishing one of the largest outdoor drone spaces worldwide. Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to and expanding the research activities of the research group through independent research
  • Independent teaching of courses in English (German language skills are not a formal prerequisite, but proficiency at level B2 is expected within two years)
  • Participation in the research and teaching projects run by the research group
  • Supervision of students
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks and in quality assurance measures
  • Contribution to expanding the international scientific and cultural contacts
  • Participation in public relations activities

Prerequisites for the appointment:

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, completed at a domestic or foreign higher education institution
  • A strong background supported by a relevant publication track record in high-quality outlets in at least one of the following areas: machine learning for robotics, probabilistic state estimation, AI-based image analysis and tracking, control
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English both spoken and written

Additional desired qualifications:

  • Experience in the (co-)acquisition and running of third-party funded projects and readiness to play an active role in third-party funded projects, their acquisition, and their lead
  • Project management experience
  • Academic teaching and student supervision experience
  • Ability to work in a diverse team
  • German language skills or willingness to learn

Our offer:

The employment contract is concluded for the position as Senior Scientist and stipulates a starting salary of € 4,752.30 gross per month (14 times a year; previous experience deemed relevant to the job can be recognized).
