The University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position at the Department of Networked and Embedded Systems, Pervasive Computing Group, at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, with an expected starting date of October 2, 2023:
Predoc Scientist (all genders welcome) (in German: Universitätsassistent:in)
Level of employment: 100 % (40 hours/week)
Minimum salary: € 45,882.20 per annum (gross); classification according to collective agreement: B1
Limited to: 3 years

Tasks and responsibilities:
- Independent research with the aim to submit a dissertation and acquire the Ph.D.
- Participation in research projects of the research group
- Teaching tutorial courses for the degree programmes information and communications engineering and/or robotics and artificial intelligence
- Participation in administrative and organisational tasks of the department
- Student mentoring
- Assistance in public relations activities of department and faculty
Prerequisites for the appointment:
- Completed Diploma or Master’s studies at a domestic or foreign higher education institution in the field of electrical engineering, information and communications engineering, informatics or related fields. This requirement must be fulfilled two weeks before the starting date at the latest; hence, the last possible deadline for meeting this requirement is September 17, 2023.
- Experience in two or more of the following fields: camera and sensor networks, drone and robot systems, multi-agent systems, digital circuits and wireless communication
- Programming skills in two or more among C/C++, Python, Java, MATLAB and VHDL
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Scientific dissemination skills
Additional desired qualifications:
- Knowledge of German
- Good social, team work and communication competences
- First research contributions
- Relevant international experience
Our offer:
This position serves the purposes of the vocational and scientific education of graduates of Master’s or Diploma degree programmes and sets the goal of completing a Doctoral degree / a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences. Applications by persons who have already completed a subject-specific Doctoral degree or a subject-relevant Ph.D. programme therefore cannot be considered.
The employment contract is concluded for the position as Predoc Scientist and stipulates a starting salary of € 3,277.30 gross per month (14 times a year; previous experience deemed relevant to the job can be recognised in accordance with the collective agreement).
The Pervasive Computing Group is part of the Department of Networked and Embedded Systems at the University of Klagenfurt. The department is a leading partner of the university’s key research strength “networked and autonomous systems” with a strong emphasis on communications and networking, wireless sensor and camera networks as well as autonomous robot and drone systems. Various projects are conducted in collaboration with industrial and research partners.
